Why Now and Why at 57?
Are you curious as to what this might mean? Please allow me to take this opportunity to explain.
I have been very blessed to live a life that includes a lot of work related travel. Some of my travels were in locations that were commonly found on bucket lists such as Dublin, New York, San Francisco, Beijing, Paris, Madrid, Buenos Aires and Ottawa. Some locations were lesser known cities with wee little airports with one runway and two gates.
I’ve also traveled to amazing vacation locations with my family. One favorite location of ours is Oahu, Hawaii. I fell in deep like with Hawaii the day I arrived and smelled the beautiful plumeria flowers and feasted my eyes on the lush landscapes. I will be writing often about Oahu and our many vacation experiences.
All this to state that I have a lot of travel experience. I have a lot of “you would so enjoy this” or “please be careful and consider this” and “here are a few suggestions” stories based on my travels. I have fun pictures that might incite you to visit a location, or remind you of a great vacation you took.
I am aware that as this time there are millions of travel blogs on the internet. I would have been foolish not to take this fact into consideration. I believe that what I bring to you, the reader, is something unique based on who I am, where I’ve been, how I’ve traveled and what I’ve learned. My drive is to share my passion and my travel experience with those who may seek guidance, inspiration or a just a good read.
I also noticed that a great percentage of the travel blogs are written by those under 35. I am about to turn 57 (June 28th) and I can fully dedicate my time to this project. My calendar age does not DEFINE me even though I understand that it might seem late in life for me to jump on the social network speeding train.
I have my helmet on and I am ready to ride! Will you join me?
I think it is a great idea for you to share your travel stories. Some people are not fortunate enough to do much traveling, and seeing these places through your eyes may give them a glimpse of a foreign land they may not otherwise get. Never let age stop you from doing things you want to do….I am 53 and just started a blog as well…and having the time of my life! Good luck!
Thanks Michele – that is my aim, is to share those stories and tips and ideas. I’m pleased to see you are in my age range ! It’s NEVER too late! Fabulous to virtually meet you!
I have always wanted a job that allowed me to travel. So far I haven’t been lucky enough to go far. I heard Hawaii is a great place to visit, now I am going to have to put it on my bucket list!
To be very honest (and this will be a later post), corporate travel is not always fun. I spent many hours in airports waiting for flights, and some of my corporate travel consisted of home airport to client airport, taxi to hotel, constant long hours at client site, back to hotel with little time to visit… then back home. The times I really enjoyed were when I was able to actually have a corporate apartment, and would spend some of the weekends visiting. Hawaii is still one of my all time favorite places! Hope you get a chance to visit!
I hope you have an amazing time traveling. I also love Hawaii–I look forward to reading more about your travel adventures.
Thanks Amber! Hawaii is without a doubt a favorite!
I love this. I don’t think anyone is ever too old to travel and experience new things! Best of luck.
Thanks Robin!
I agree that it’s never to late to travel! I didn’t like New York much when I visitied, but I would love to visit Dublin some day!
Dublin was awesome – so many bridges and I love those!
Wishing you all the very best in this journey! Can’t wait to see the amazing travel content that you will be sharing 🙂
Thank you Milton for your kind words! I hope you will feel free to give me some feedback, I’m new with social media as a suite!
Oh wow how exciting, my Gran when she was retired, suddenly decided to take off and explore the world, she was amazing! She did it until she couldn’t anymore.
I hope that people won’t let age get the best, unless of course, there are modifications to address health or limitation issues. I plan on traveling as long as I can!
Advance Happy 57! You are fabulous in your own ways and keep on rocking! Travel more and enjoy this beautiful nature 🙂
Thanks you for your kind words. I’m really enjoying the learning process!
How funny! When I think of travelers, I usually think of people my mom’s age and older (so around your age now). I don’t know how people my age (32) have time or money to travel so much.
You raise a good point, and I wondered about cost, but many of the younger bloggers have a revenue from their blogs, so that helps fund their travels. I’ll see from the engagement I hope to build through my stories and being open and honest to folks!
You are really lucky to have worked for a job that allowed you to travel. I’m in a cubicle for 8 hours and I only get to travel occasionally.
I absolutely recognize the opportunities I’ve had to travel with work. Working with all types of cultures opened my eyes to our beauty through diversity, and our likeness.
For me, age equals experience, and those experiences are just right for the sharing. Plus it’s nice to get a different perspective on a place.
Thanks for your kind words
No one else has your perspective, which makes your travel experiences one of a kind. I also appreciate the perspective of folks over 40. We need voices who speak to where we are in life. BTW, my husband is from Oahu. Sadly, I’ve never been.
I hope you get to visit Oahu – we’ve stayed on that island for the 5 visits!
Good to know about your travel adventure. I will be looking forward to read more it.
Thanks!
how awesome and really luck that you were bel to have a job were traveling was a part of that. That is way exciting.
It was totally awesome. I saw some big cities, and some wee little ones! For a Canadian, I’ve covered more in the USA than in my own country!
I think it’s pretty cool that you are a 57-year-old travel blogger. You bring a different perspective to the table, especially if you visited some places more than once. Congrats and write on!
Thanks – there are a few cities where I returned with a large time gap in between. I returned to a small city called Cuenca in Spain, where I first studied, and returned after my first Camino de Santiago, 34 years later. I even met up with my then boyfriend of 3 years! what a wonderful reunion, sadly, he passed away the next summer.
I hope you experience new and great things as you travel around the world, and thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Thanks for posting.

I had no idea that is was this much work, but when it’s a passion, it’s NOT work – it’s working towards a goal! Thanks for your comment.
